The Direction General for Higher Education Institutions is responsible for all the national and international policy affairs related to the Spanish higher education system. It is involved in the implementation of the European Higher Education Area in Spain, and therefore, at a national level this Direction General establishes the new laws for the design, the implementation and the quality assurance of new grade, master, and doctorate programmes; at the international level, at present its main objective is to promote the internationalization and modernization of the Spanish higher education institutions; thus, the management of the Erasmus Mundus Programme, as well as the recognition of foreign higher education degrees, included international joint degrees through the Spanish Naric centre, are also managed within the organizational framework of this Direction-General.
